Oskar Potiorek

Oskar Potiorek was the Austro-Hungarian Governor of Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1911 to 1914. In 1913 Potiorek invited Archduke Franz Ferdinand to Sarajevo on June 28, 1914 and was a passenger in the car in which Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie were riding when they were assassinated. After the assassination, Potiorek encouraged an anti-Serb pogrom in Sarajevo. When war broke out, he became commander of Austro-Hungarian forces in the Balkans. However, after disastrous failures at the Battle of Cer Mountain in August and the Battle of Kolubara in December, he was removed from command on December 22.
