While Great Britain formed the Triple Entente with France and Russia was not a party to the Franco-Russian alliance and so was not obligated to go to war when these two powers did. However, Great Britain entered the First World War shortly afterwards, at 11:00 pm on August 4, 1914, in response to Germany's invasion of Belgium.
