Weapons

The First World War saw many types of new weapons used. All the European powers had been stockpiling new artillery, machine guns, and explosive shells and building new battleships and submarines. However, as there had not been a major war in Europe since 1871, many of these weapons were untested. As well, attempting to break the stalemate on the Western Front resulted in the use of many different weapons such as poison gas and tanks.
