Belgium

Germany's Schlieffen Plan involved attacking France from the north, which required invading Belgium. Although Belgium was a neutral country, Germany invaded Belgium in August 1914, an action that brought Great Britain into the war. Belgium put up stiff resistance but most of Belgium was in German hands within a matter of weeks. During their occupation of Belgium the Germans committed various atrocities which, suitably exaggerated, made for excellent propaganda.
